Wish has the largest online shopping platform in the world but it has a rather dubious reputation. Can you really get great products with Wish shopping?
These questions and many more will be answered by us. So that you don’t have to, we’re going to purchase something.
Is Wish a Scam or a Legitimate Business?
Let’s not forget that the Wish.com website does not contain a scam. Wish is a legitimate company and an e-commerce platform. This means:
The Good. The Bad. The Good.
- You can buy with confidence
- Your product will be delivered to you (eventually).
- You can return the product to get a full refund.
Wish shopping, in other words, is not different from Amazon. It has many of the same flaws as Amazon, and in fact, these are magnified by the unique business model Wish uses.
It can be a great place to shop if you know what Wish shopping is all bout. There are many lessons to be learned if you don’t know what Wish shopping is.
Amazon and other platforms have many third-party sellers that sell products through Amazon. Amazon is best known for selling, procuring and storing products directly. Amazon has huge warehouses full of robots, people and other goodies. This is one reason you can order anything from Amazon and get it tomorrow.
Wish is not like this. The products that you see on Wish’s website are usually from independent sellers. They often come directly from the manufacturer or an associate. Wish is able to sell products at a fraction of the cost because all middlemen have been eliminated.
However, this does not necessarily mean that the products are of good quality or legitimate. Wish sells lots of junk. You can find cheap junk anywhere, but Wish’s business model and market attracts a lot. We’ll talk more about counterfeit products shortly.
Shopping is Not for Sensitive Shoppers
It’s important to know that Wish has no control over the products you see. Upon browsing through the products, we were presented with explicit images of products that clearly belong in an adult category.
It’s not the end of the internet, but it can be a problem if you are sensitive. You might want to avoid this site as you may see explicit images without warning. Wish is not recommended for children. Let’s see if you are okay with the occasional naughty photo.
Who is Wish Shopping for?
Wish has spent many years gathering economic data. They have spent years studying how people spend their money, the types of products they use and to who it might appeal to. We believe Wish is the best product for those who are looking for:
- Products that do the basics of the job well at a low price.
- You can get genuine bargains on products that would normally be more expensive elsewhere.
- You won’t find this unusual, unique or interesting stuff anywhere else.
Let’s take a look at how Wish purchases items.
It was easy to sign up with our Google account. Our account was set up in less than a minute and we were able to add products to our shopping cart. It should be noted, however, that our account was placed on hold at checkout while we verify our identity.
Wish was required to scan our government ID. This was not a random verification check. We don’t know if this is a common practice for every customer. This is not unusual, however, as it has been done by other websites in the past to prevent fraud. We were able to access Wish shopping after the account was unlocked five days after it was created.
When you visit Wish’s homepage, it’s not obvious how you are supposed to find something. We found that clicking on “Brands”, which will open a traditional set of brands and categories, helps you to find what you are looking for.
Look out for sections that are “verified” by brands. These sections are guaranteed to contain real-deal Wish products. You were not impressed by the number of products you saw on the homepage.
The Product Selection
This is the most important part of shopping online. It doesn’t really matter how good the Wish website is, it’s what you want to purchase.
This means that everyone will find different value in the Wish products. The majority of products that we found on Wish were either junk, expensive, or both. There was also a lot of interesting stuff that received positive user reviews. Don’t try to paint the whole catalog in the same way!
The Wish Return Policy
Wish offers a comprehensive return policy, just like every other online store. It is worth reading through the policy. Check that the return criteria are compatible with your plans for the product type you intend to purchase.
We have not read this policy. If a product is counterfeit, the policy does not support refunding your money. The policy states that any item not in accordance with the listing is eligible for a refund. This does not necessarily mean that a product you think it is will not count if it ends up being not from the same brand.
Although Wish prohibits counterfeit goods sales, they do have specific guidelines that you should be aware.
It is possible to get a great deal on a product if it seems too good to true. It is unlikely that you will find a $10,000 item for as low as $10. If the listing clearly names the brand, we are confident that you will be able to return the item or get a refund if it turns up to be fake. Stick to verified brand categories.
Wish is Still Very Risky
Wish is a dangerous place for shoppers. Although you won’t be able to have your personal information stolen or get a refund on defective or missing products. When assessing the price of a product and the likelihood that it is fake, use common sense.
We think that there are certain products that are safe to purchase from this site. It doesn’t matter if a novelty item, such as a statue or memorabilia is fake or real. If the item is exactly as you expected and the item has a beautiful appearance, you may be happy with the item and the price.
electronics are the worst product you can buy on this site. There are some rare gems, but the majority of electronic gadgets that you will find on this site are either of poor quality or very poor performance. Even basic items such as audio cables and USB accessories will not function as well or be of poor quality.
Let’s sum up the Wish shopping experience.
- You can trust the site and get your item or your money back.
- However, the item could be misleading but not in violation of Wish’s terms & conditions.
- It may take long time before your item arrives depending on where you live.
- The local government may charge additional import duties.
- There were many interesting items we saw, including novelty T-shirts, geeky sculptures, and other unique gadgets. It was worth it to buy for a laugh.
Wish will change over time, just like everything else. While you should be able to shop on Amazon for serious money, don’t forget to explore the wonderful world of Wish.
