Software developers cannot be certain that their software is safe to use without testing. There could be bugs, security holes, or other issues that make it unusable. Users may choose to switch to better software. Major software releases like Discord test new features before they are released.
The alpha release of Discord Canary, the popular community chat program, is available. Discord Canary, just like Chrome Canary, gives interested users access to new features. Here’s everything you need to know about Discord Canary.
What’s Discord Canary?
Miners are required to bring a canary along with them to work in order for communities to be protected against carbon monoxide poisoning. It wasn’t a metaphorical act to take “a canary down the mine coal mine”, it was an air quality test. The miners would be able to continue their work if the canary survived.
Software developers rely on canaries. Miners don’t rely on them anymore. A “canary” in technology terms is an alpha or final release of software that is available for developers, quality-testers, and eager users to test out. Canary releases are not stable, so bugs and crashes will be expected.
Discord Canary is no exception. This alpha release serves as the first test build for new features or bug fixes. This is the first of three Discord release channels. It allows the development team to test Discord and fix any issues before a larger release is made.
If Discord Canary features or bug fixes are safe, they will be added to Discord Public Test Builds (PTB), for further beta testing. Then they will be released to the wider Discord community as the Discord Stable release. This release will be available when you visit the Discord website or download the desktop app.
These features and fixes may not be stable or complete, so the development team might remove them from Discord before releasing the PTB or Stable versions. These features could be reintroduced after further refinement or may be removed entirely depending on the overall Discord plan.
For whom is Discord Canary Suitable?
Discord Canary is still in its early stages of testing. The community is still waiting for some of the new features, fixes, or other enhancements. Discord Canary can be used safely, but it’s not stable. You should not be afraid to use Discord Canary if you are keen to. It may crash or fail, or features stop working or become unavailable unexpectedly.
Only serious developers, testers, or enthusiasts should install or try a Discord Canary release as a testbed. Discord Canary can be used if you are interested in testing the latest Discord features or helping the development team to identify bugs and problems.
Discord Canary can be downloaded as a desktop application or you can use the web-based version to test it out in your browser. It is possible for bugs, crashes, errors and other issues to occur if you test it. Only developers, enthusiasts and serious testers should use Discord Canary. All other users should stick with the stable release.
You can help the Discord Canary development team by submitting bug reports through the Discord website. Discord Canary will first contain new bug fixes, which will be available for a small number of users to test before being released in the stable version.
Discord Canary will not be available for Android or iPhone Discord users. However, Discord Testers members can sign up to receive early access to new features and fixes.

Discord Canary
You can test the latest features and fix bugs by installing Discord Canary on your Mac or PC. You can also switch to the Discord Public Test Build (PTB), or the widely-available Discord Stable if it is a bit unstable.
You can set up a Discord server to test it, regardless of whether you are using Discord Canary and Discord Stable. You can add Discord bots for more functionality or switch to a number of Discord alternatives such as Ventrilo or Slack.
